Highlights & Creative Process

Egg Thieves

Egg Thieves was a personal project and exercise in painting at a larger scale. The final painting is roughly 2’x3’ and applied to masonite. I’ve always loved D&D and Tolkien, and I developed this illustration. I wanted to depict a group of dwarves who ransacked a dragon’s nest, realizing that they sleeping dragon had woken up, and wasn’t too happy. I wanted to use warm and cool light to help guide the viewer through the scene. In hindsight I would make some changes to the composition, but I’m still pretty happy with the painting overall after getting over the love it/hate it faze.

Manufactured Love

I was brought in a few years ago to help conceptualize a short film that was initially going to be filmed using stop-motion. I created character concepts and illustrations. Model reference images for the puppets, and storyboards to help guild the movie. The film is still in production, but it gave me a great opportunity to learn about film production, conceptual design, and production design.

King of the Monsters

I’ve always been a big fan of giant monsters, there’s something that’s really fascinating about creatures the size of skyscrapers wondering around. In 2014 a new Godzilla movie was released, and after seeing the film I was really inspired to create this piece. I loved how they went about making Godzilla feel like a living creature and blended a lot of the traditional elements and incorporated a lot of really interesting details. I wanted to capture the scale of the monsters in the film and illustrated things from a low vantage point, this helped draw your attention to the King of the Monsters roaring in victory.
